From short videos introducing patrons to ebook platforms, to interactive tutorials helping students practice search strategies, to podcast series unpacking copyright basics for college faculty—libraries are increasingly creating digital learning objects to empower and support their communities.
Whether you’re new to instructional design or looking to refine your skills, this four-week course will help you build engaging digital learning experiences for your library community by exploring topics such as instructional design, learning technologies, accessibility, assessment, and the ongoing maintenance of digital learning objects. Not only will you develop a detailed plan for a digital learning object tailored to your library’s needs, but you’ll also be invited to create and receive feedback on a draft or prototype of your learning object.

John Stawarz

John StawarzJohn Stawarz has been teaching and developing media for much of his professional career. At Syracuse University, he serves as both the online learning librarian and an instructor for an online graduate course on library planning, marketing, and assessment. He has previously served as an associate producer for National Geographic Television, a radio station news director, a university press editorial assistant/intern coordinator, and a Peace Corps teacher in Benin, West Africa. John holds an MS in Library and Information Science, an MS in Instructional Design, Development, and Evaluation, and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Designing Digital Instruction.

How to Register

To enroll yourself or other participants in a class, use the “Register” button that follows the description of each course. If the “Register” button does not show up, try loading the page in a different web browser. Contact us if you have technical difficulties using our shopping cart system or would like to pay for an enrollment using another method. On the payment page in the shopping cart system, there is a place to add notes, such as the names and email addresses of participants you wish to enroll. We will contact you to request this information in response to your processed payment if you do not include it in the “notes” field. Prior to the start of the workshop, we will send participants their login instructions.
