Overview of Scholarly Publishing

$250.00

Dates: May 3 - May 30

Credits: 1.5 CEUs or 15 PDHs

Producing and publishing scholarship is an integral aspect of academic librarianship. Librarians must typically include evidence of scholarly writing in their promotion narratives, annual reviews, and tenure dossiers. But publishing an article, book chapter, or other piece of scholarship can be overwhelming—what should you write about, where should you publish, what comes next?

This four week course will answer those questions and take participants through the entire scholarly publishing cycle, from drafting a manuscript to submitting an article to a journal and all the steps in between. The course will provide participants with perspectives from authors and from editors to provide a holistic view of the scholarly publishing process. Participants will engage with readings, discussion board posts, and other interactive and engaging activities to prepare them to publish their scholarship.

Instructors of this course are two academic librarians with 10+ years of experience and many published articles and book chapters between them. In addition, they both serve on the leadership team of a diamond open access journal, the Journal of Open Educational Resources in Higher Education.
