Understanding Personality Assessments: Tools for Leadership and Team Building in Libraries

$250.00

Dates: September 1 - September 28

Credits: 1.5 CEUs or 15 PDHs

Psychometric assessments are popular tools in team-building and leadership development programs. Some people find them insightful, while others consider them as valid as reading your daily sun-sign horoscope. So why are they used so often?

This course examines the reasoning behind using assessments in these contexts and how you can get the most out of them.

Participants will begin with an overview of these tools, including their intended uses, limitations, and potential for misuse. Each week will include a more detailed examination of one popular type – the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), StrengthsFinder, Enneagram, and DISC. Assigned reading will address the theories behind each assessment type and practical applications. Participants will take free versions of the assessments and reflect on their experience.

Whether you’re seeking personal growth, looking to strengthen your leadership style, or aiming to build more cohesive teams, this course will equip you with practical strategies and a critical lens for leveraging these tools in the workplace.

*Note that the free version you take will be based on the same theory but is not the “name brand” version. The purpose is to get a better understanding of that category of assessment in general, not get your exact MBTI results.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Gain deeper self-awareness through personal engagement with four popular types of personality assessments.
  • Analyze the strengths, limitations, and ethical considerations of using these tools in team-building and professional contexts.
  • Apply insights from these assessments to enhance their leadership development.
