This course will explore student learning assessment principles and techniques for both in-class and online courses and instruction. This course will start off exploring what student learning assessment is and why it is important for library instruction. Reviewing writing measurable learning outcomes will also be discussed. We will cover classroom assessment techniques such 3-2-1s, one-minute papers, concept maps, jigsaws, and think-pair-shares. We will also discuss how to measure learning based on these classroom activities with rubrics. Participants will end this course with a student learning assessment plan to incorporate into a class or instruction session. We will focus on formative assessment in this course.

Ashley Blinstrub is the Student Success and Inclusion Librarian at George Mason University Libraries. She has her Master of Science in Information from the University of Michigan. Before coming to GMU she served as the Research and Assessment Librarian at Saginaw Valley State University in Saginaw, MI. Ashley is passionate about continual improvement of library services for students and assessing student learning in library instruction!
