A six week online course on access services, designed to meet the elective requirement for the Library Support Staff Certification program. The basic functions of access services include circulating materials, maintaining physical collections, and assisting library users with diverse needs. Access services staff are often in the most direct contact with library users, and as such they must be able to create a welcoming and safe environment in the library; assist patrons with accessing and using the wide variety of library materials and equipment; and maintain the physical condition and organization of library resources. This course will get you started in all of these areas, as well as give the specific competencies laid out by the LSSC program.
Course Description

Colleen Sanders
Colleen Sanders is a librarian, faculty developer, instructional designer, and open education practitioner with an evergreen curiosity for how openness transforms learning to be more relevant and authentic. She currently supports faculty in academic and technical fields to combine access with inclusive pedagogy. Her work advocating for strong OER policy amidst bookstore outsourcing and analysis of commercial textbook affordability programs earned her an OER Champion award in 2019 from Open Oregon Educational Resources, where she’s an OER Development Consultant on the Targeted Pathways Open Curriculum project. She hopes to empower librarians to leverage open practices to create more equitable and critical information practices.

This is an excellent course with a great course instructor. The course was well laid out with relevant assignments and quizzes to reinforce letures and reading. Deadlines are reasonable, as is the workload. I recommend this class to anyone contemplating a career in library services.
