What We Do
Library Juice Academy offers a range of online professional development workshops for librarians and other library staff, focusing on practical topics to build new skills. The curriculum is designed by librarians with a focus on skills that are in demand in the profession, rather than the academic tradition of library education that tends to address other priorities. Emphasis is on student interaction with instructors and with each other, supported by a variety of class assignments and reading materials. The instructors are librarians and LIS faculty who have developed specialized knowledge in the subjects they teach. Our workshops earn Continuing Education Units, and are intended as professional development activities.
Our classes are taught asynchronously, meaning that participants do the work when it is convenient. The classes do not meet together at any particular times, although the instructors may set up optional synchronous chat sessions. Instruction includes readings and assignments in one-week segments. Class participation is in an online forum environment.
Library Juice Academy offers a number of certificate programs that enable you to gain and show evidence of mastery of a subfield of librarianship. Although not accredited by an outside institution, they are widely recognized as a marker of significant knowledge and advanced skills. Classes in our certificate programs can be taken as stand-alone courses as well, although in some cases the content builds on knowledge gained in previous classes in a series.
We accept registrations through the first week of classes, unless enrollment is full, and unless the class was canceled before it started due to low enrollment. Registration can be done through our online store, which allows payment through personal or institutional credit cards, or PayPal. If your institution wants us to send a billing statement or wants to pay using a purchase order, please contact us by email to make arrangements: inquiries@libraryjuiceacademy.com.
We are also a small press book publisher in the library field, as Library Juice Press and Litwin Books. Book publishing is how we originally got started. You can read about our background and beginnings here, and learn about our small staff here.
