Introduction to GIS and GeoWeb Technologies

$250.00

Dates: January 6 - February 2

Credits: 1.5 CEUs or 15 PDHs

With the rise of widely available online mapping tools, interest and awareness in geospatial information have surged. Individuals are using Geographic Information System (GIS) technology for diverse purposes—personal, social, professional, and academic. Whether it is to analyze urban changes with Google Earth, create interactive presentations with ArcGIS Online, or leverage tools like QGIS and OpenStreetMap for custom mapping, more people are turning to geospatial applications for visualizations and spatial analysis.

This course will introduce students to a variety of mapping tools and GIS technologies, including Google Earth and the creation of dynamic KML files; ArcGIS Online for web map publishing; QGIS for desktop mapping; and GIS fundamentals like geocoding and georeferencing. Students will learn to integrate GIS skills into library reference work, digitization projects, web development, and library instruction. Through hands-on exercises, pre-recorded demonstrations, and engaging learning materials, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of modern mapping resources that can enhance and showcase their library’s offerings.
