Is library school a good idea? Does it matter which library school someone chooses? What can one do with a library degree? Is the degree worth the cost and trouble?

About the Presenters

Olivia Radbill (she/her) is a Los Angeles-based librarian and archivist. She currently serves as the Adult Services/Local History Librarian at the South Pasadena Public Library and teaches at Pasadena City College and Louisiana State University. She has extensive experience in volunteer coordination, programming, public libraries, academic reference, grant writing, collection management, and archival work. In 2024, Radbill was the runner-up for the American Library Association (ALA) Justin Winsor Library History Essay Award for her article, “Settler Narratives: Colonial Genocide, Westward Expansion, the Gendering of Librarianship, and the Appointment of City Librarian Nellie Keith”, later published in the Journal of Radical Librarianship. Jamia Williams (she/her) earned her Bachelor of Science in History from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Brockport and her Master of Library Science from North Carolina Central University. She is an Assistant Librarian at the University of Utah Eccles Health Sciences Library. She is also the co-creator of the LibVoices podcast and the creator of The Diversity Fellow’s blog. Chloe Westman (she/her) earned her Masters in Library Science from Drexel University. After a brief stint with the Free Library of Philadelphia, she moved into content management, and has found many opportunities to use her library skills. She has worked with several corporations to meaningfully organize their marketing materials, notably Merck and Restoration Hardware, and currently works for the Barclays US Consumer Bank as their Digital Asset Librarian. https://www.linkedin.com/in/chloe-westman

Rosemary Medrano (she/her) currently serves as a Community Engagement Librarian for Madison Public Library. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Loyola University Chicago and her Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Missouri at Columbia. In 2021, she was selected as an Association of Research Libraries’ Kaleidoscope Program scholar. She has written several book reviews for Library Journal.
