Certificate in Special Collections Librarianship

The Certificate in Special Collections Librarianship is a eight-course series designed for those who want to learn more about special collections libraries, which include but are not limited to old, rare, and otherwise unique printed and manuscript books, periodicals, broadsides, manuscripts and papers, photographs, ephemera, and more. While most of the courses focus on the professional skills needed to work in and manage special collections repositories, the Rare Materials course explores the items in collections themselves. Because special collections librarianship overlaps with other cultural heritage work in archives, digital collections, and museums the elective course allows students to select from an allied area of interest.
