The world of scholarly communication is constantly evolving, but copyright is a constant. Copyright is a fundamental part of open access and traditional publishing, teaching with and using copyrighted works, creating and sharing open educational resources—all pieces of a Scholarly Communication Librarian’s work.
In this four week course, participants will discover the basics of copyright law and the fair use doctrine; investigate copyleft culture and Creative Commons licenses; delve into copyright considerations as a librarian, teacher, and researcher; and confront issues regarding author’s rights and publishing. Participants will engage with readings, real copyright case examples, discussion posts, and other interactive activities to learn and synthesize these concepts.
