Want to learn how to create and present engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate storytimes? This course is for you! Designed for new or aspiring youth library practitioners, participants will learn the basics of storytime in a library or outreach setting for children birth through age 5, including best practices in early literacy. Participants will leave the course with a fully planned storytime and the tools and knowledge of early literacy needed to create and present storytimes of all kinds for different age groups. This course will include assignments and practice activities.
Learning Objectives
Participants will:
prepare and present a storytime utilizing early literacy best practices.
intentionally design and present engaging and developmentally appropriate storytimes.
demonstrate an understanding of the importance of storytime in public libraries.

Currently the Deputy Director for Tacoma Public Library, Kendra Jones is passionate about all things early literacy and developing future library leaders. Prior to taking on broader leadership roles she was a Children's Librarian focusing on early learners for 11 years. She has been training and mentoring library staff and other early literacy practitioners for over 15 years. She earned an MLIS from University of Arizona in 2008 and a BA in Social Sciences with a minor in Psychology from Washington State University in 2005.
