Leadership in libraries is often focused on solving problems and filling gaps, but what if we turned that lens towards amplifying what already works? Strengths-based leadership draws on positive psychology to help individuals and teams identify their natural talents, channel energy more effectively, and create cultures where people thrive.
In this four-week course, you’ll learn how to apply strengths-based principles in library settings. We’ll explore tools for recognising and developing your own leadership strengths, strategies for supporting diverse teams, and approaches for embedding a strengths-based culture across departments. Practical exercises and case studies will show how focusing on strengths can improve engagement, performance, and wellbeing, while reducing stress and conflict.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
• Understand the foundations of strengths-based leadership and its relevance to libraries.
• Identify personal leadership strengths and how to use them effectively.
• Apply strengths-based approaches to managing individuals and teams.
• Use coaching techniques to nurture strengths in others.
• Develop strategies for embedding a strengths-based culture in their library.
Who Should Take This Course:
Library leaders, managers, and aspiring leaders at all levels who want to enhance team performance, engagement, and wellbeing by focusing on what people do best.
