In this class, you will learn how to connect writers with readers in an engaging, educational, and community-building setting. Class content will include ways to offer communities the opportunity to hear authors to share their work, discuss their creative processes, and interact with their audience.
Author events play a significant role in promoting literacy, fostering a love of reading, and supporting the literary community. These programs often play an essential role in lifelong learning, community togetherness and cultural enrichment.
Objectives for course:
– Participants will be able to explain how author events contribute to lifelong learning, community togetherness, and cultural enrichment.
– Participants will be able to design, plan, and execute engaging and effective author events that connect writers with readers and foster a love of reading within their community.
– Participants will be able to develop event formats that engage and interact with the audience (e.g., readings, Q&A sessions, workshops, book signings).
– Participants will be able to manage event logistics and ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for attendees and authors.
– Participants will be able to develop and implement evaluation methods to assess the success of author events.

Brittany Robinson serves as an Access Services Specialist at the Strauss Health Sciences Library on the Anschutz Medical Campus. A librarian and small business owner, she is passionate about fostering community engagement through library programming. Brittany holds a Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) from the University of Denver and a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Criminal Justice from Metropolitan State University of Denver. With over 17 years of experience in the library and information field, her background primarily encompasses roles in public and special libraries.
