A six week online course on supervision and management, designed to meet the elective requirement of the Library Support Staff Certification. This course covers introductory information on policies and procedures, the hiring cycle, professional development, performance expectations, discipline, leadership, strategic planning, budgets, fundraising, partnerships, marketing and outreach. At the end of the course students will be prepared to provide basic supervision and management in a public library setting. Students will complete a plan for a new service based on the demographics of their user base. The assignment will require budgeting, planning for a new service, creating an evaluation plan and an analysis of the effects of the proposed service on current policies and procedures.

Jessica Moyer

Jessica E. Moyer is an instructor for Library Juice Academy and course developer for the Library Support Staff Certification program. She also works as an freelance editor for both scholary and fiction projects. Jessica also worked as the Director of Library Services for the Katie Mueller Library at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky, a visiting librarian in the Reference and Instructional Services department at the University of Illinois Library and an assistant professor in the School of Information Studies at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in Literacy Education and MS and CAS degrees from the University of Illinois, Graduate School of Library and Information Science. Moyer has taught reference and readers' advisory courses for the LIS students and continuing education courses. Moyer writes for publication, serves on committees and boards, and regularly speaks and conducts workshops on audiobooks, ebooks and ebook readers, readers' advisory for all ages, and working with teen readers. Course Structure

This is an online class that is taught asynchronously, meaning that participants do the work on their own time as their schedules allow. The class does not meet together at any particular times, although the instructor may set up optional sychronous chat sessions. Instruction includes readings and assignments in one-week segments. Class participation is in an online forum environment.
