Melissa Depper

Melissa Depper is the Manager of the Child and Family Library Services department at Arapahoe Libraries, and has over 25 years experience in public library youth services, including 10 years supervising, training, and mentoring a team dedicated to providing literacy-based storytimes. Melissa is an inaugural member of Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy, an advisory group to the Colorado State Library; co-founded the CLEL Bell Picture Book Awards for Early Literacy; and served on the PLA/ALSC Every Child Ready to Read Oversight Committee. Her interests include early literacy, early childhood programs and services, parent and caregiver education, staff development and training, and storytime skills and competencies. Melissa has an MSLS from University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

How it Works

Our courses use an online course management system. We use Moodle, an easy-to-use open source platform with few technical requirements beyond an internet connection and standard browser interface.

Courses are taught asynchronously (meaning that you don’t have to be online at any particular time), and involve reading assignments, offline activities, and class participation.

Our strong emphasis is on interaction between the students and the instructors.

A four week course involves about fifteen hours of work (3.75 hours per week).

Our instructors are knowledgeable professionals actively engaged in the learning process, and are there to support you.
