LSSC Required Competencies: Technology

A six week online course about library technology, designed to meet the requirements of the Library Support Staff Certification. This course covers general trends, roles and responsibilities, confidentiality, data integrity, appropriate use, patron training and assistance, discovery tools, troubleshooting, and assistive technologies. Course methods will include assigned readings, videos, class discussion, research, and other activities, on a weekly basis.
Robin Hastings is the Director of Technology Services for the North East Kansas Library System. She manages the system's technology department and consults about all kinds of technology topics with member libraries. She has presented on Mashups, Cloud Computing, RSS, Drupal, Library Learning 2.0, Project Management and many other topics. She is the author of Microblogging and Lifestreaming in Libraries, part of the original Tech Set, as well as Making the Most of the Cloud and Outsourcing Technology for Libraries, both published by Scarecrow Press. This is an online class that is taught asynchronously, meaning that participants do the work on their own time as their schedules allow. The class does not meet together at any particular times, although the instructor may set up optional sychronous chat sessions. Instruction includes readings and assignments in one-week segments. Class participation is in an online forum environment.
