Sharaya Olmeda worked as a Senior Librarian at a men’s prison in California from 2019- 2023. In 2022, Sharaya joined the ALA Standards for Library Services for Incarcerated or Detained Work Group, where she chaired the Drafting committee and was later chosen as a Project Manager serving a dual role in both the writing and leadership of the project. The forthcoming Standards will be published in 2024 by the American Library Association and the Mellon Foundation. Sharaya teaches Prison Library Services at Cuesta College, and is currently a Counselor at Large with the American Library Association, where she was elected to serve until 2025. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Master in Library Information Science degree from San Jose State University.
