Boggled by AACR2 records? Want to know the best way to upgrade them, or why they look the way they do? If you’re dealing with a hybrid record environment that includes both AACR2 and RDA, or if you’ve learned to catalogue in RDA and have little experience with AACR2, this course is for you. By the end of this course you will be able to interpret, edit and upgrade AACR2 records in a hybrid AACR2/RDA record environment.
Topics will include:
- A brief history of AACR/AACR2
- Interpreting AACR2 records
- How to edit existing AACR2 bibliographic records
- How to edit AACR2 authority records
- How to include RDA elements in AACR2/RDA hybrid records
Catelynne Sahadath is the Social Sciences Data Librarian at the University of Ottawa. She was formerly the Head of Metadata Development at the University of Calgary, and has previously worked on cataloguing and digitization projects for the Government of Canada. She holds an MLIS from the University of British Columbia, as well as an Honours BA from the University of Toronto. Interview with Catelynn Sahadath
This is an online class that is taught asynchronously, meaning that participants do the work on their own time as their schedules allow. The class does not meet together at any particular times, although the instructor may set up optional sychronous chat sessions. Instruction includes readings and assignments in one-week segments. Class participation is in an online forum environment.
